Why we love it
We’ve needed to travel to Amsterdam for work a few times and since it’s been for stays of 4 days or more, we wanted to be in a place with a kitchen and more residential comforts than a hotel. We also love trips as an opportunity for exploring beautiful design and architecture and learning more about how other people and cultures live.
This is an outstandingly beautiful open loft apartment in the center of the Jordaan district, which has excellent restaurants and little shops, as well as a farmer and flea market on the weekends.
While the open nature of this spot may not be great if you need privacy or have kids, for us and our young son (who thankfully was just starting to walk and not yet running and climbing on everything) it was perfect.
Designer furnishings (the host has a gorgeous giant scrapwood dining table by local icon Piet Hein Eek, and a Jielde floor lamp), a big clawfoot tub, an open and industrial-feeling kitchen with a little back patio, and a crazy view of the beautiful Noordermarkt church and square across the street–this was one of our favorite stays in the Netherlands. The canals as well as a sweet little playground are also just steps away.
